Welcome to Byllify ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application, Byllify (the "App").

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not access or use the App.

1. Information We Collect

We only collect information that is necessary to provide the App's core services, including bill scanning, optical character recognition (OCR), and real-time split-bill group sessions.

A. Personal Data

• User Accounts & Authentication: We use Firebase Authentication to manage user access. If you sign in anonymously, a unique guest identifier (UID) is generated. If you authenticate via phone number, we collect your phone number solely to authenticate your identity.
• Profile Information: You may choose to provide a display name and your UPI ID (for generating payment QR codes). This information is stored in the database to show other lobby members who you are and how to pay you.

B. Bill & Transaction Data

• Scanned Images: When you capture or upload a photo of a receipt, the App processes the image to extract items, prices, taxes, and totals.
• Session Details: When you host or join a splitting session, the list of items, item selections, participant names, and settlement balances are synchronized in real-time.

C. Device Data

• Accessibility Settings: The App checks accessibility settings (such as "Reduce Motion") to optimize UI animations, but this data never leaves your device.

2. How We Process Your Data

• Local OCR Processing: Text recognition (OCR) from bill images is performed locally on your device using Apple's Vision framework.
• AI Extraction (Gemini): To accurately structure items, tax rates, and restaurant names, the extracted text tokens are processed via the Google Gemini AI models. This data is handled in accordance with Google's API Privacy Terms.
• Real-time Synchronization: Session data (excluding raw bill images) is uploaded to Firebase Firestore to coordinate splits in real-time with other participants whom you invite.

3. Data Retention Policy

To protect your privacy and optimize storage, Byllify implements a strict 60-day local and remote data retention policy:

• All bills and splitting sessions are automatically and permanently deleted from local storage and the remote database 60 days after creation.
• You may also manually delete a bill at any time, which permanently removes all associated data immediately.

4. Third-Party Services

The App integrates the following third-party services which collect and process data in accordance with their privacy policies:

5. Security of Your Information

We use commercially acceptable administrative, technical, and physical security measures to protect your personal information. However, please be aware that no security measures are perfect or impenetrable, and no method of data transmission over the internet can be guaranteed against intercept or misuse.
